Directions: How to find us

The Paul-Ehrlich-Institut is located between Frankfurt am Main and Darmstadt in the south of the Federal State of Hesse. Its address is: Paul-Ehrlich-Straße 51-59, 63225 Langen, Germany.

You will reach the institute on the A5 and A661 motorways/expressways and from Frankfurt Airport. Good public transport connections to the institute are available.

By car

  • From Frankfurt, take the A5 motorway/expressway towards Darmstadt/Basel
  • Take the exit at Langen/Mörfelden. Take the road 'B486' towards Langen.
  • Follow the 'B486' appr. 3 km through the forest.
  • When reaching the set of traffic lights at the crossing with the district road to Egelsbach, follow the sign posts for 'Bundesbehörden / Gewerbegebiet Neurott' (Federal authorities/industrial area of Neurott).
    If you follow this signposting, you will go down Ampèrestraße. At the end of that street turn left into Pittlerstraße, then, at the roundabout take the Robert-Bosch-Straße, then, at the second roundabout, go down Paul-Ehrlich-Straße.
  • The Paul-Ehrlich-Institut is a major white building complex at the end of Paul-Ehrlich-Straße near the edge of the forest. It is recognisable by its paved area and sculptures in front of the building.
  • Parking facilities are available on the institute’s car park. In order for the barrier to open, please call the porter via the intercom.

By plane

  • The international airport closest to the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut is Frankfurt Airport (IATA code: FRA)
  • By taxi from the airport:
    Inside the airport building, follow the signs to the taxis. The journey from the airport to the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut takes about 15 – 20 minutes. It costs between 20 and 30 Euro depending on the time of day.
  • From the airport by public transport:
    The airport has an S-Bahn connection. The S-Bahn is a fast commuter train. Follow the signs for "Regio-Bahnhof" to find the S-Bahn stop. Take the S8 towards Hanau and get off at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (Main Station). Please click here to find directions from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof to the PEI.


By public transport

Depending on your place of departure, you will either travel via the ICE Train Station at Frankfurt or the ICE Train Station at Darmstadt.


Connection from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (Main Station)

If you travel via Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, you will have three choices:

  1. Take the S3 towards Darmstadt or the S4 towards Langen. These trains leave from the basement level of Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (Main Station). They run every 15 minutes. Get off at the S-Bahn stop at "Langen/Flugsicherung" (the air traffic controllers’ institute at Langen). From the S-Bahn stop, take the roughly 10 minute walk up to Robert-Bosch-Straße. On arriving at this street, bear right, then, after appr. 50 m turn left into Heinrich-Hertz-Straße. Follow this street until you arrive at Paul-Ehrlich-Straße. Turn right for the main building or left if you want to go to one of the external offices.
  2. Take the S3 towards Darmstadt or the S4 towards Langen. These trains leave from the basement level of Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (Main Station). They run every 15 minutes. Get off at the stop "Langen" and take a taxi or bus no. OF-72 towards Neurott (a part of Langen). Please note that the S-Bahn stop "Langen" is one stop after the S-Bahn stop "Langen/Flugsicherung".
  3. Take the regional express train towards Heidelberg or Mannheim, which runs every hour. Get off at "Langen" (station) and take a taxi or bus no. OF-72 towards Neurott.

Connection from Darmstadt Hauptbahnhof (Main Station)

When travelling from Darmstadt Hauptbahnhof you have three choices:

  1. S3 towards Bad Soden which runs every 30 minutes. Get off at "Langen/Flugsicherung" and walk (10 minutes from the stop). Please note that the stop "Langen/Flugsicherung" follows directly after the S-Bahn stop "Langen".
    From the S-Bahn stop, take the roughly 10 minute walk up to Robert-Bosch-Straße. On arriving at this street, bear right, then, after approx. 50 m turn left into Heinrich-Hertz-Straße. Follow this street until you arrive at Paul-Ehrlich-Straße. Turn right for the main building or left if you want to go to one of the external offices.
  2. S3 towards Bad Soden, which runs every 30 minutes. Get off at "Langen"; then take a taxi or bus no. OF-72 towards Neurott (a part of Langen)
  3. Take the regional express train toward Frankfurt which runs every hour. Get off at "Langen"; then take a taxi or bus no. OF-72 towards Neurott.

Connections from Langen Station

From Langen Station, you have two choices:

  1. Bus no. OF-72 towards Neurott (a part of Langen) up to the stop "Bundesbauten" (Federal Authority Buildings). This bus line runs every 30 minutes until 7:45 p.m.
  2. Taxi from Langen Station to the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut: appr. 5 minutes ride which costs about 5 Euro.
