The European Medicines Agency (EMA) coordinates the scientific monitoring and safety testing of human and veterinary medicinal products in the EU.

Experts from the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut are involved in the various committees of the EMA and often take the lead role in centralised marketing authorisation procedures for vaccines and biomedicines and perform the relevant safety testing.
