Statement on Accessibility

The website Paul-Ehrlich-Institut of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, the Federal Institute for Vaccines and Biomedicines, has been designed to be as accessible as possible. The legal basis for this is the Act on Equal Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities (BGG) and the Accessible Information Technology Ordinance (BITV).

The vast majority of the requirements of BITV 2.0 in the current version of summer 2019 have been implemented. The website is partially compatible with the requirements of the BITV. For this purpose, we have carried out an internal review of accessibility. Improvements are currently in progress.

Where Might You Encounter Barriers?

In principle, it is possible to use the website by means of the keyboard. Content that is offered in carousels, slides or galleries can be accessed via the search function and the general navigation system. If you wish to access the content via the carousels or slides themselves, it is necessary, when using the keyboard, to navigate between the content items using the Tab key, before the control elements can be operated. This is a system-level barrier and will be rectified as soon as possible.

Animated carousels can in principle be paused. This occurs automatically if an element is controlled using the mouse or keyboard. Alternatively, they can be stopped using the pause button in the slide navigation. This button is positioned after the explanatory texts for the slide. This is a system-level barrier and will be rectified as soon as possible.

Navigating in index card systems is slightly more difficult, because, in order to read the content, all the index cards must be skipped using the Tab key. This is a system-level barrier and will be rectified as soon as possible.

In the event of backwards navigation using the keyboard in desktop view, the navigation elements may overlap, as they do not close automatically. This is a system-level barrier and will be rectified as soon as possible.

Sound has not been fully added to a small number of video clips, but these are still largely accessible. We are working to improve this further.
