Use of Social Networks

For the sharing of content on social networks, the PEI website uses buttons with the so-called Shariff solution from Heise.

Standard social media buttons transmit visitor data to the social networks on every page view and thus provide information about your surfing behaviour. For this to happen, you do not need to be logged in or to be a member of the network in question.

In contrast, a Shariff button only establishes direct contact between the social network and the visitor when the visitor actively clicks on the share button. In this way, Shariff prevents you from leaving a digital trail on every page you visit and thus improves data protection.

Further details on the nature and extent of the stored data may be found in the privacy statements of the individual websites:

Legal Basis for Data Processing

The processing of user data to improve the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut website serves the public interest of the healthcare sector and is carried out in connection with the performance of the PEI’s official tasks (Article 6(1)(e) GDPR such as § 3 BDSG). Insofar as users avail themselves of services that cannot be offered without the provision of personal data (.e.g a contact form or newsletter), the provision of such data simultaneously entails consent to its processing (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).

Rights of Users

As a user of our website, you have the right to request information from us concerning your stored and processed data and, if applicable, to request that we rectify any incorrect data. In addition, in accordance with Articles 17 and 18 of the GDPR, you have the right to have your data erased or to restrict its processing. Insofar as the collection and processing of data is based on your consent, you can withdraw this consent at any time.

If you have any doubts concerning the conformity of our handling of your data with data protection law, you can contact the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information or on of the the Data Protection Commissioners for the federal states.
