Glossary

The Paul-Ehrlich-Institut has developed the definitions in this glossary to help users understand regulatory and biomedical terminology. Definitions may differ from those given in German and European Union legislation and medicine. Many definitions correspond to the glossary entries on the pages of the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

WHO – World Health Organization

The World Health Organization (WHO) is the United Nations specialised agency for public health. The goal of the WHO is to provide all people with the best possible health care. Experts from the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut work on WHO committees and in WHO working groups. Two WHO Collaborating Centres are currently located at the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut.

Working Party

A group of European experts that can be consulted by the European Medicines Agency's committees on scientific issues in their area of expertise. Working parties are often given tasks linked to the evaluation of applications and the drafting or revision of guidance.
